Greener technologies: Hikvision maximizes energy efficiency with product innovations

Technology companies have a key role to play when it comes to creating greener, more sustainable products and solutions that help reduce carbon emissions. This is a key focus area for Hikvision, and we constantly strive both to maximize the energy efficiency and durability of products, and to optimize the sustainability with product and technology innovation.

At Hikvision, our approach to greener footprint revolves around the development of innovative technologies and products that help our customers and partners to operate more sustainably and protect ecosystems and the environment. From the get-go, our skilled engineering teams consider different ways to optimize product designs, constantly seeking a balance between performance, durability, and – crucially – energy efficiency.

Key examples of Hikvision’s flagship technology and product innovations include:

  • Hikvision solar-powered security cameras

By eliminating the need for an external power supply, our Solar-powered Security Cameras use approximately 80 kWh less electricity per year. As a result, a single solar security camera can save about 56.7 kg of CO2 emissions annually, contributing significantly to sustainable security efforts.

  • Hikvision DarkFighterS

Hikvision DarkFighterS technology produces color images in extremely low light conditions – down as low as 0.0003 lux, significantly delaying the need for additional lighting and promoting sustainable security practices. In darkness, users can set motion-triggered supplemental lighting instead of ‘always-on’ lighting to reduce energy use while maintaining security.

  • Hikvision Ultra Series network cameras

Hikvision Ultra Series Network Cameras offer a low-power mode, with the ability to fully power up and capture images only when events occur. This saves enough energy to charge around 2,100 smartphones per year.

  • Hikvision eDVRs

Hikvision's eDVR Series uses eSSD solid-state storage technology, reducing energy consumption by almost 45% compared with conventional DVRs. The energy saved by this innovation in one year is equivalent to what’s absorbed by a mature tree in the same period of time. This innovation supports our commitment to sustainable security solutions.

  • Hikvision green LED displays

By simplifying encapsulation and offering better heat dissipation, Hikvision LED displays with flip-chip Chip-on-Board (COB) technology can reduce power consumption by up to 50% and screen body temperature by 5-10° C. compared with traditional LED displays, making them ideal for sustainable applications.
